Center and Program Grants

 

Chicago Center of Excellence in Health Promotion Economics (CCEHPE)

The Chicago Center of Excellence in Health Promotion Economics (CCEHPE) enhances the understanding and design of health promotion policies.  Funded by the Centers for Disease Control, the CCEHPE constitutes a collaboration of the University of Chicago and the University of Illinois at Chicago for the support of training and research in the use of economic methods for analyzing health promotion. This collaboration is augmented by partnerships with the Illinois Department of Public Health and community health leaders in Chicago. The core faculty of the CCEHPE consists of over 70 scholars with emphasis in economics and health services research, but with great strength in sociology, epidemiology, demography, psychology, biostatistics, public health, and clinical medicine.

 

Center for Education and Research on Therapeutics (CERT)

The Centers for Education and Research on Therapeutics (CERTs) is a research program administered by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ).  The University of Chicago collaborates with 14 other CERTs across the country to conduct research and provide education that will advance the optimal use of drugs, medical devices, and biological products.The Hospital Medicine and Economics CERT based at the University of Chicago seeks to create a powerful education and research infrastructure to produce and disseminate knowledge to improve the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the use of therapeutics in hospitals, including drugs, biological products, and devices. 

 

Finding Answers: Disparities Research for Change

Finding Answers: Disparities Research for Change is a National Program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation with technical assistance and direction provided by faculty and staff at the University of Chicago. Finding Answers awards and manages research grants totaling $6 million to healthcare organizations implementing interventions aimed at reducing disparities. The funds are used to evaluate the interventions and their potential for real world implementation. This initiative encourages health plans, hospitals, and community clinics to focus on racial and ethnic disparities as a priority in their quality improvement agendas.

 

University of Chicago Program in Pharmaceutical Policy (UCP3)

The University of Chicago Program for Pharmaceutical Policy (UCP3) promotes research, training, and dissemination of knowledge concerning pharmaceutical policy issues. Supported by the Merck Company Foundation, the program will focus on regulation of the pharmaceutical industry; health technology assessment and other policies that inform pharmaceutical coverage and reimbursement decisions; and factors contributing to pharmaceutical innovation. Additionally, UCP3 funds pilot research projects pertinent to the study of pharmaceutical policy, supports predoctoral scholars, and provides an infrastructure for interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty.

Training Early Achievers for Careers in Health (TEACH) Research

Training Early Achievers for Careers in Health (TEACH) Research prepares and inspires talented Chicago Public Schools high school students to pursue careers in health-related research. The program provides the students with an opportunity to work with a multi-tiered team of researchers including faculty, fellows, residents, medical students, and undergraduate students as they participate in a variety of the activities related to the project, including chart abstraction and patient interviews. TEACH Research is supported by a number of national organizations, including the National Institute of General Medical Science/National Institutes of Health (NIGMS/NIH).

 

 

Research Support

 

Methods Core for Outcomes and Health Services Research

CHeSS coordinates a Methods Core for outcomes and health services research which is dedicated to providing our reseach affiliates with high quality analytical and research assistance. The OMC is staffed with experienced masters and doctoral level collaborators. Affiliates may request assistance in preparation of grant and contract proposals, data collection strategies, accessing large public-use datasets, database development, statistical recommendations on projects, and data analysis and interpretation.
