The SPORT program builds on the summer curriculum we developed for our Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Program when the University of Chicago Program was a site for that program from 1995-2005. SPORT is made possible due to the financial support of the chairs of the Departments of Medicine and Surgery with additional funding from the Biological Sciences Division and support from the Center for Health and the Social Sciences (CHeSS). Space in these courses is limited and participants must apply.
Summer research courses include:
Fellows and junior faculty at the University of Chicago
Send your CV, a personal statement (indicating how you expect to benefit from SPORT and your commitment to attend all SPORT functions this summer), and letter of support from your department chair or section chief (indicating your availability to attend all SPORT functions this summer) to Coleman Evans at cevans@bsd.uchicago.edu.
SPORT is sponsored by the Departments of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Chicago. Up to four fellows or junior faculty from each of these departments can attend the program without charge. Candidates from those departments are advised to indicate to us and their chair as soon as possible their intent to apply to SPORT so that we can anticipate demand and address any needs for additional funding.
Application Deadline: Check back for SPORT 2010 application deadlines.
Candidates from other departments
You may apply to SPORT, following the instructions above, and will be considered for admission for remaining spaces in the program. SPORT is also part of the core curriculum for trainees in the 2 year Primary Care Clinical Scholars and Hospitalist Scholars programs. For students paying tuition for these courses through a University of Chicago degree program such as a Master's program in Health Studies or Public Policy, or a PhD Program, these courses can count for up to 9 hours of course credit. Course fee for SPORT is $3000.
Application Deadline: Check back for SPORT 2010 application deadlines.
Candidates from outside the University of Chicago
Candidates form outside the University of Chicago may apply to participate in SPORT through the Hospital Medicine Fellowship Program. Through this program course fees and a housing stipend are available for 4 hospitalists (from outside the University of Chicago) to participate. Applicants should send 1) a cover letter, 2) letter of support from their Program Director, Division Chief, or Chair, and 3) resume to:
